Promotional Games: Lost in Your Space...
While visiting family I checked in at a nearby casino to see what they were doing on the promotion front. So the quick details: Very nice medium size property, 1000+ slots, decent traffic for a Friday afternoon.
The club staff did a pretty good job. They made it easy for me to join their club and they did make sure to invite me to receive further news and offers by email.
The downside?
A. No real discussion of their promotions.
B. When I found their promotion, I couldn't understand it—and I make promotional games for a living.
C. There was a lackluster display next to the promotion signage. No part of it was more than three feet high, so it didn't grab my attention at eye level, or stand out from all of the visuals in the property.
D. The display was staffed by a disinterested employee who did nothing to increase interest in participating in the promotion throughout the month, playing that day, etc.
Lessons?
1. Engage players at your club and get them excited about opportunities to win through increased play and participation in your promotional games.
2. Make your promotional games easy to understand. If you change your promotions on a monthly basis, you have to expect that players are going to need to wrap their heads around the new art and rules.
3. Make your promotional games stand out. There's nothing like seeing a hundred million dollar property try to generate excitement around something so small that it's visually uninteresting or lost.
4. Are you missing the opportunity to have your promotions placed in the right place at your property and accompanied by a team member who engages with players and gets them more excited about your promotions?
